This text was written to address the growing literacy crisis that exists in our country. Illiteracy is above 50% among our school-age teens, minority and socio-economically disadvantaged teens being at the forefront. The purpose of this curriculum component is to address what is evidently the core cause of the problem the absence of a fluency base upon which to build actual reading fluency skills. Though this text was written for classroom use, it is an excellent tool that parents of struggling readers can easily use in the privacy of their own homes.
